“Sometimes, due to circumstances, a devotee may be living away from a temple and the association of a community of devotees. That is a difficult situation to be in. In that case, one should try to make the association with one’s family members as spiritual as possible.

We need to engage all our resources, and the way to do that is by preaching. So if by chance we live far from a temple, we should make our home like a temple. That means more than just having an altar with Deities or pictures; it means that the activities in our home should be the same as the activities in the temple. And we should preach — invite people to our homes and go out and have programs. We can start our own temple and make our own community of devotees.”

“Yesterday we fasted for Sri Rama-ekadasi, and twenty six-years ago, in Bombay, something very special happened the morning after Sri Rama-ekadasi. Every morning before six I would walk up the stairs to Srila Prabhupada’s quarters to accompany him on his morning walk. But the morning after the Rama-ekadasi in 1974, when I got to the top of the stairs, the door was locked, which was very unusual. It was the only time I ever climbed the stairs when Srila Prabhupada was there and the door was locked. . . .”

During the Sunday program in Dallas on October 4, Giriraj Swami spoke about the glories of the month of Kartika and the importance of devotee association. “In the month of Kartika (October-November); especially in Vrndavana, there is a specific program for temple worship of the Lord in His Damodara form. ‘Damodara’ refers to Krsna’s being bound with rope by His mother, Yasoda. It is said that just as Lord Damodara is very dear to His devotees, so the month known as Damodara, or Kartika, is also very dear to them.” (NOD 12)

Today was the appearance day celebration for Srila Tamal Krishna Goswami in Dallas. Giriraj Swami spoke on the Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 18, Text 75, in the morning, and gave a short talk for the release of the picture book about Tamal Krishna Goswami, Gurudeva, in the afternoon.

The wonderful festival of Ratha-yatra was held in Dallas on Saturday, April 25. Giriraj Swami spoke on the significance of the occasion, then participated in the procession, and then spoke again at the festivities after the parade in the park next to the temple. In this talk, levitra given before the procession, he discusses the confidential mood of Lord Caitanya in separation from Lord Jagannatha during Anavasara, the fifteen-day period after Snana-yatra and before Ratha-yatra when  Lord Jagannatha goes into seclusion, and how Caitanya Mahaprabhu was reunited in ecstasy with His beloved Lord.
