Giriraj Swami read and discussed Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Adi-lila, Chapter 5, verses 204-223.

TEXT 204

jaya jaya nityananda-caranaravinda
yanha haite painu sri-radha-govinda

TRANSLATION

All glory, all glory to the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda, by whose mercy I have attained Sri Radha-Govinda!

PURPORT

Srila Narottama dasa Thakura, who is famous for his poetic composition known as Prarthana, has lamented in one of his prayers, “When will Lord Nityananda be merciful upon me so that I will forget all material desires?” Srila Narottama dasa Thakura confirms that unless one is freed from material desires to satisfy the needs of the body and senses, one cannot understand the transcendental abode of Lord Krsna, Vrndavana. He also confirms that one cannot understand the loving affairs of Radha and Krsna without going through the direction of the Six Gosvamis. In another verse Narottama dasa Thakura has stated that without the causeless mercy of Nityananda Prabhu, one cannot enter into the affairs of Radha and Krsna.

Giriraj Swami read and commented on Srila Prabhupada’s purport to the song Manah-siksa, “Teachings to the Mind,” from Prarthana by Srila Narottama dasa Thakura.

“On the order of his spiritual master and in the mood of compassion, Srila Prabhupada came and faced so many dangers and took so many risks. Thus he became the object of the utmost mercy of the Lord and the parampara. Based on his own faith and realization, he wanted to engage his followers in the same mood of selfless service to the spiritual master, the parampara, and the fallen souls. Therefore he encapsulated volumes and volumes of philosophy–Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Sri Caitanya-bhagavata, the songs of the previous acaryas–in this simple aphorism:

“‘To approach Sri Sri Radha-Krishna, one must get the mercy of Lord Caitanya; to get the mercy of Lord Caitanya, one must get the mercy of Lord Nityananda; and to get the mercy of Lord Nityananda, one must approach people like Jagai and Madhai.'”
