Attaining Perfection Through One’s Occupation, May 13, Houston

May 20, 2013

8755307342_6c6aaed28b_bGuru Bhakti Dasi is a physician in the ISKCON Houston community, and she has been graciously serving devotees for many years. She became a doctor on the order of her spiritual master, His Holiness Tamal Krishna Goswami Maharaj.

Giriraj Swami and Rtadhvaja Swami spoke at the official opening of her new office building. Rtadhavaja Swami read and spoke from Bhagavad-gita 18.46, and Giriraj Swami read and spoke from Bhagavad-gita 6.47.

“Our acaryas explain that without Krishna consciousness, one will lack the motivation to be regulated. Although the rules of varnasrama-dharma  are meant to regulate the activities of the conditioned souls, without Krishna consciousness, or God consciousness, they will start to deviate. And as we know, when we deviate a little, it becomes easier to deviate some more, and then it becomes easier to deviate even more. And eventually one will fall from the system of varnasrama-dharma and have no way of avoiding sinful activities. Thus having fallen from the human platform, one will enter a hellish condition of life — which is exactly what Srila Prabhupada said. So our business in the human form of life is very serious. Along with our occupational duty, we must also engage in the process of chanting and hearing the holy name and glories of the Lord, which will ensure our Krishna consciousness. Otherwise if we perform our occupational duty and neglect the process of chanting and hearing, we can also become weak.” — Giriraj Swami
