Giriraj Swami continued his discussion on Srimad-Bhagavatam 11.3.32.
“One can come to the temple in the way of materialistic fruitive workers, thinking, ‘I’ll give some money, I’ll listen to some pravachan, and I will do some seva‘ — but the goal is not to purify the heart so that one is eligible to get out of the material world and go back home to Godhead. The motive is to remain in the material world and enjoy more, with the blessings of the Lord. This is not bhakti; this is business.
“There is so much ‘spiritual’ talk, but the basic idea everywhere is to enjoy the material world. People go to the yoga studio to reduce fat and release tension, ultimately to be better able to enjoy sense gratification. Just different varieties of sense gratification in different guises. But Krishna consciousness, or real spiritual life, is completely different. It may appear the same superficially, but it is completely different, because anyabhilasita-sunyam — a pure devotee has no interest other than to purify himself, purify his heart, and develop love for Krishna — not develop love for things of the world.”
