Giriraj Swami relates more deep and fascinating stories of Srila Prabhupada preaching in Bombay and at the Kumbha-mela in Allahabad. Giriraj Swami then recounts an incident from 1977 in Vrindavan:
“Srila Prabhupada’s health was so delicate we thought he could leave at any time. He was so weak he could hardly speak.
“In a very soft voice he asked. ‘So, do you think this movement will go on after I leave?’
“I answered, ‘Yes, as long as the devotees are sincere, chant their sixteen rounds, and follow the regulative principles, it will go on.’
“Srila Prabhupada was so sick that anything he said could have been be his last words, and I had to really strain to hear him.
“With great difficulty, Srila Prabhupada said, ‘Organization. Intelligence and organization.’
“These two or three words are full of meaning and had a profound effect on me. Yes, we have to chant sixteen rounds and follow the four regulative principles. But we are meant to do more than just maintain our own spiritual lives. We are meant to preach, to expand the Krishna consciousness movement and increase the number of devotees. And to do that requires organization–intelligence and organization. And that endeavor to spread Krishna consciousness in an organized way is a real sacrifice to Srila Prabhupada and Lord Caitanya. It is also service, like chanting and following the regulative principles.”
