Rama-navami Morning, March 31, Los Angeles

April 1, 2012

Girirj Swami read and spoke from Srimad-Bhagavatam 5.19.5.

“Ecstatic feelings of spiritual separation are, ironically, what makes Krishna consciousness the most relishable. This is a very prominent feature in our line. But in order to feel separation, you first have to feel attachment. When we begin to become attached to Krishna, we can have feelings of separation from Him. Then our spiritual advancement is accelerated. Feelings of separation are a tremendous impetus to spiritual progress. And such feelings apply to both Krishna and His devotees. In fact, generally they begin with one’s spiritual master — or some other elevated devotees. One becomes attached to them, and then one feels separation from them. And in order to mitigate those feelings of separation, one serves them. That is the process. By following their instructions and serving them, one associates with them. . . .

“Often I have felt the greatest bliss when I was in the most difficult material circumstances. If we are in a pleasant, comfortable situation, the question arises, ‘Am I here for my sense gratification, or am I really here for service?’ But when you are in a situation that is materially difficult, you know that you are there not for your sense gratification, but to serve Srila Prabhupada and the parampara.”
