Balarama Rasa-yatra: Pure Love in Vrindavan, San Jose, April 16

April 17, 2011

“Srila Prabhupada told a story about Mr. Gladstone, the prime minister of Great Britain. A big man came to meet him and after waiting over an hour, pushed open the door to see how the prime minister was engaged. He saw the prime minister on the floor on his hands and knees with his grandson on his back, riding him like a horse and directing him, “Hut! Hut! Hut!” Gladstone was still the prime minister, the controller of the British Empire, but he came under the control of his grandson, out of affection. He was enjoying being a horse with his grandson on his back. So, Krishna also enjoys taking a break, so to speak, from being the Supreme Lord, the ruler of all the universes, to just relax and play with His intimate loved ones. And that is His Vrindavan lila. He enjoys when His cowherd boyfriends climb on His shoulders — He enjoys the reproaches of the gopis more than the Vedic hymns. That is because these intimate exchanges come from such a deep level of pure love.”
