“The idea of being the best friend, or savior, can also be a subtle contamination. Thinking that we can really be someone’s friend outside of directing them to Krishna and helping them towards Krishna is, in a way, another manifestation of  wanting to take Krishna’s place — which is cheating. So, the topics that we have been discussing tonight are very purifying because, as our other speakers have said, the whole material energy conspires to create the illusion in us that we are the enjoyers, we are the proprietors, we are the controllers — and we are the saviors. And the manufacturers, the advertisers, the marketeers, and the propagandists in general all cater to our basic weakness. To really understand and remember our position we have to be reminded. That is why we must regularly read the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam, especially in the association of devotees who live the life of the bhagavata, the servant of God, Krishna.”
